The Largest Throwing Circle
The discus throwing circle measures 2.5 meters in diameter, making it the largest of the standard track and field throwing rings. The discus circle is the foundation of any throwing facility and the standard from which other throwing rings are often built or adapted.
Shot Put and Hammer Rings
The shot put ring measures 2.135 meters in diameter and the hammer circle matches it at 2.135 meters as well, both noticeably smaller than the discus ring. The shot put circle also includes a toe board at the front, a curved stop board typically made of wood that athletes push against at the finish of the glide or rotational throw. Shot put and hammer rings use the same diameter, which makes facility planning more straightforward for programs running both events.
The Conversion Circle
Many schools and programs only have a discus circle on site, which creates a problem when athletes need to train or compete in the shot put or hammer. The conversion circle solves that directly. It is a purpose built insert that fits inside a standard 2.5 meter discus ring and converts it into a regulation 2.135 meter shot put and hammer circle, complete with a toe board. Programs that already have a discus throwing ring can add shot put and hammer capability without building a second circle from scratch.
