Which tip should I choose
Which tip should I choose
Quick answer: Most athletes should choose a Steel Tip unless their state or meet specifically requires a Rubber Tip.
- Steel Tip: Best for most sanctioned competitions. Steel tips stick into the ground on landing, which helps officials measure valid throws (Common states: LA, FL, AK, AL).
- Rubber Tip: Used when a state requires rubber-tipped javelins for safety or surface protection (Common states: NJ, AZ, CA, WA, NC).
Important: The rules above are generally for high school sanctioned meets. If you are buying for summer leagues (USATF or AAU), the rules often change. For example, even if your state requires a rubber tip during the high school season, summer competitions in that same state might use steel tips.
Changing from Steel to Rubber Tip:
It is NOT possible to change a tip from steel to rubber or vice versa. Once a javelin is built, it stays with that tip forever. Attempting to put a rubber tip on a steel javelin is illegal for competition.

What does meter rating mean?
What does meter rating mean?
Meter rating indicates the stiffness and flex profile of the javelin, which directly impacts flight and performance. Lower meter ratings offer more flex and are ideal for developing throwers, while higher ratings provide increased stiffness for stronger, more advanced athletes.
Choosing the right meter rating helps maximize distance, control, and consistency based on your throwing ability.

OUR STORY
BY THROWERS,
FOR THROWERS.
Most companies sell equipment for 23 different track & field events. Only 4 of those are throwing events. That's why we built 4Throws — a company laser-focused on the throws. Because we specialise, we beat our competitors in product quality, customer service, and shipping speed.
We're a real throwing family. My father was the U.S. National Champion in the javelin. I threw hammer, and my sisters threw javelins. Our family has been in the throwing industry since the 1980’s. Thats over 40 years of experience!
4Throws was started over a decade ago because we felt the industry needed a company that truly cared — quality equipment, expert advice, and athletes-first service. We sell everything from solid mid-range gear to the absolute best in the world.
